Ideal for Winter Season
The British Virgin Islands have been the world's most celebrated sailing charter destination for more than half a century, and this eight-day circuit from Soper's Hole explains precisely why. Covering the full arc of the archipelago from the pirate-legend caves of Norman Island to the flamingo-inhabited coral atoll of Anegada in the north, the route takes in the iconic granite boulders of The Baths on Virgin Gorda, the celebrated wreck of the RMS Rhone off Salt Island, the exclusive North Sound anchorage, and the legendary beach bars of Jost Van Dyke, all within a compact, easily navigated island group where the trade winds blow consistently and the water is warm year-round.
- Day 1
Norman Island
Treasure Island legend, floating pirate bars, and the BVI's best cave diving
Norman Island is the first stop on your BVI yacht charter, and a fitting one, given that this uninhabited island is widely believed to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Whether or not the legend holds water, the island delivers on atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
The bay holds Willy T, a floating bar in the form of a decommissioned Baltic trader permanently anchored in the anchorage, serving cold drinks to sailors and gaining a reputation as one of the most memorably unconventional watering holes in the Caribbean. The more serious business of the day is underwater: The Caves dive site on the island's western cliffs features a series of sea caves accessible by snorkel or dive, home to glassy sweepers, squirrelfish, and the occasional octopus tucked into the rock formations.
The Indians, four rocky pinnacles rising from the water just offshore, offer some of the finest snorkeling in the BVIs, with dense coral coverage and abundant reef fish at accessible depths. Spend the evening at anchor in The Bight, one of the most sheltered and sociable anchorages in the islands, and dine either on board your chosen super yacht charter or ashore at the Pirates Beach Bar.
- Day 2
Peter Island
One of the Caribbean's finest beaches and a bay with a suitably dark history
Peter Island is a largely private island south of Tortola that consistently earns its reputation for having one of the most beautiful beaches on a British Virgin Islands yacht charter itinerary. The morning is best spent doing very little, settling into a lounger on the white sand, watching the turquoise water shift color through the day, and working through a rum punch or two before a light lunch on board.
Deadman's Bay carries a more dramatic history than its pristine setting might suggest, named, according to local lore, for the bodies of pirates washed ashore after attempting the swim from Dead Chest Island nearby, the subject of the famous seafaring rhyme "Fifteen men on a dead man's chest."
In the afternoon, deploy your watersports yacht charter toys for an active session in the calm, clear water around the island before heading ashore for an evening at the Dead Man's Beach Bar & Grill, open-fire cooking, fresh seafood, and views across the Sir Francis Drake Channel as the sun drops below the horizon.
- Day 3
Cooper Island & Salt Island
Protected reefs, juvenile fish nurseries, and the most celebrated wreck dive in the Caribbean
The short cruise to the charter routes of Cooper Island brings you to one of the quietest and most naturally preserved stops on the route. The island's protected reef system makes it a consistently rewarding dive destination for all levels. Cistern Point on the island's eastern side is particularly good for spotting juvenile fish in the rocky nooks and crannies of the reef structure, alongside healthy coral coverage and a range of invertebrate life.
The headline dive of the day is nearby at Salt Island, home to the RMS Rhone Marine Park, site of one of the most celebrated wreck dives in the entire Caribbean. The RMS Rhone was a Royal Mail steam packet vessel that sank during a catastrophic hurricane in October 1867.
The wreck now lies in two sections at depths ranging from six to 24 meters, offering accessible diving for beginners on the shallower bow section and more challenging diving on the deeper stern. The wreck is so encrusted with coral and marine life that it has effectively become an artificial reef, and the diversity of species here is extraordinary. A highlight for all Caribbean yacht charter guests.

- Day 4 - 5
Virgin Gorda
The BVI's most iconic natural wonder and its finest resort anchorage
Virgin Gorda is the jewel of any Virgin Islands yacht charter itinerary, an island of dramatic contrasts between the boulder-strewn southwestern shore and the calm, sheltered waters of the North Sound. Allow two full days here to do it justice.
Spend the second day in the waters of Virgin Gorda yacht charters exploring the North Sound, one of the most sheltered and exclusive anchorages in the Caribbean, enclosed by a ring of islands and reefs that create near-perfect flat-water conditions, whatever the weather is doing outside.
The Bitter End Yacht Club on the eastern shore is a landmark institution for the BVI charter community. Day passes allow access to its water sports facilities, beach club, and restaurant, and the sailing school here is among the most respected in the Caribbean.
- Day 6
Anegada
The BVI's most remote island, its most important reef, and a flamingo colony unlike anything else in the Caribbean
Anegada stands apart from every other island in the BVI, flat, coral-based rather than volcanic, and surrounded by Horseshoe Reef, the third-largest barrier reef in the world and one of the most significant marine ecosystems in the Caribbean. Yacht charters to Anegada require advance navigation planning given the reef's extent, but the reward is an island of extraordinary natural quiet that feels genuinely removed from the rest of the archipelago.
Walk the interior, and you will encounter a resident flamingo colony, one of the few in the Caribbean, occupying a salt pond in the island's center that also draws herons, egrets, and an exceptional range of migratory birds.
The reef itself offers outstanding snorkeling and diving: coral formations in pristine condition, hawksbill turtles, nurse sharks, and lobster in abundance. Loblolly Bay on the north shore is the finest beach on the island, a long, deserted stretch of pale sand and calm water where the only company is what the reef brings in.
- Day 7
Jost Van Dyke
The Caribbean's most celebrated beach bar, a natural whirlpool, and the soul of the BVIs
Small in size but enormous in character, Jost Van Dyke punches well above its weight as the social heart of the BVI charter circuit. Begin the day at White Bay, a long curve of impossibly white sand and shallow turquoise water on the island's south shore, home to the legendary Foxy's Bar. Practically an institution in Caribbean sailing culture, Foxy's has been hosting charter guests and sailors since the 1960s.
Great Harbour on the south coast offers a more cosmopolitan alternative, a string of waterfront bars and casual restaurants with enough character to keep you occupied through the afternoon. For something quieter, take the tender to Bubbly Pool at the island's northeastern tip, a natural rock pool where wave surge creates a Jacuzzi effect in the shallows, a fitting and unhurried way to close out the last full day in the British Virgin Islands.

- Day 8
Soper's Hole
A final morning in one of the most charming harbors in the BVI
The final morning of your Tortola yacht charter returns you to Soper's Hole, one of the most naturally sheltered and characterful harbors in the BVI, framed by colorful gingerbread-style buildings and a wharf that has been provisioning motor and sailing charter yachts for decades.
Take time before disembarkation to browse the boutiques and craft stores along the waterfront for souvenirs, or settle in for a final breakfast at Pusser's Landing, a BVI institution serving the archipelago's famous Pusser's Rum in a setting that makes a fitting close to the week.
The British Virgin Islands have a way of making departures feel premature. The good news is that the full fleet of available BVI charter yachts is only a search away. Reach out to a yacht charter broker to start planning your next charter vacation to the BVIs.
